There are a number of things you can do around the home that will have a positive impact on the environment and your pocket. Whilst most consumers are extremely energy conscious, it can be useful to refresh yourself and your family:

• Switch off lights in unoccupied rooms.
• Do not leave computers or audio-visual equipment on standby for prolonged periods.
• Do not leave devices such as mobile phones plugged in and ‘on charge’ once full.
• Only use energy saving light bulbs.
• Draw lined curtains at night over all windows and exterior doors, plus use draft excluders.
• Keep radiators free from curtains/ obstructions.
• Monitor your electricity consumption by using a Smart Meter such as the once featured here. Engage the whole family by getting them interested in how much electricity the household is consuming real-time. Offer small incentives to the kids if they help reduce bills.
